Get ready for Diesel’s new campaign

After a successful ‘Be Stupid’ Campaign, Diesel is taking it up a notch with their new campaign ‘Diesel Island’. Get ready for a visual feast as this campaign unfolds. Taking its cue from ‘Lost’, Diesel created its own island where rules are written by skimpy youngsters, taking showers together and running around naked. Its what they call ‘the land of the stupid, home of the brave.’

The real Super Bowl winners —

07 Feb 2011, Posted by Kylie in art, brands, current events / news, design, lifestyle, 1 Comments

I am the last person I’d expect to write a post about the Super Bowl, but I wanted to give credit where credit is due. No, not to the Packers [admittedly, I didn't even watch the game], but to the creative genius that populated the airwaves between all of the brute and brawn. At $3M per spot, this years commercial ad space was sold out by October.

Here are a few of my favorites. What were yours?

This Chrysler commercial featuring Eminem is an evocative shout out to the Motor City. It my pick for most inspiring— a portrait of an industry and a city that knows luxury through decades hard work and struggle. “It’s the hottest fires that makes the hardest steel.”

I was VERY impressed with the grace and ease at which Motorola took some deep jabs at Apple with this commercial. The Orwellian automaton society, all white, hoodies, walking in formation, each murmuring into their headphone mics. Here motorola challenges us to be different and “create a better world” — walk against the crowd, take out those ear buds and bring some color into the world!

This Volkswagon commercial wins for just plain cute— a viral success even before it aired on television.

I think this Doritos commercial is hilarious. It makes me sooooo uncomfortable. Love it!

Bodies in Urban Spaces

29 Sep 2010, Posted by Kylie in art, awareness, current events / news, 0 Comments

“Bodies in Urban Spaces,” an avant-garde moving art exhibition by choreographer Willi Dorner, was performed around Wall Street last Sunday and Monday. Approximately 20 dancers dressed in bright colored work-out clothes and transformed themselves into the surrounding architecture. In New York, it’s not uncommon to encounter strange sights and sounds on the streets, but this unique moving art is just unusual enough to capture the attention of the passersby. “Bodies in Urban Spaces” was created in France and has performed in Austria, England, France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the US.

anything for GAGA

09 Jul 2010, Posted by Neves in art, awareness, brands, current events / news, design, 0 Comments

When the rains descended upon Rockefeller Center, it just seemed fitting for the fans and for the lady herself. With over 20,000 people (most of who spent the entire night) squeezed into every nook and cranny, the place pulsated with life while the rest of NYC was fast asleep. Gaga: an icon, a brand, among many other things.
Be forewarned: look out for The Claw!

America, take a note.

08 Jul 2010, Posted by Alyssa in current events / news, lifestyle, topics, 1 Comments

These are just a few things with which I think America needs to [re]acquaint itself, and embrace to some extent or another.

1. Stoop sitting

‘Nuff said.

2. “Rent is the thing that beats us” or “self-created life”

Poppa Neutrino’s life philosophy is full of gems.

3. Siestas

Leave it to Americans to create the “power nap” instead…

4. Drinking in public

I’m not necessarily advocating public drunkenness. Just the opportunity to sit in the park with a glass of wine or a good beer and get down to people-watching. Let’s add a good piazza to the mix too.

5. Rush hour – with bikes!

6. Taking your time to end a film (and allowing yourself patience when watching a film)

Fassbinder got it right with The American Soldier.

7. Free post-secondary education

If this is too much to ask for, then let’s at least ban rankings by publications like U.S. News & World Report, which cause schools to compete for top spots via increased spending on stuff like state-of-the-art athletic facilities and dorms. We don’t need rock-climbing walls and former hotel rooms. We need more accessible educational opportunities for all.

8. Metric system

It’s the official system of measurement for all nations except Burma, Liberia, and the United States. It’s based on powers of ten. Wouldn’t it just make things a little simpler?

9. The autobahn

The facts are there: higher speed doesn’t mean more fatalities or accidents. Differences in speed are the main factors in highway accidents; more liberal speed limit laws actually improve the flow of traffic and reduce the number of accidents. Having cops lying in wait along the side of the road proves a dangerous distraction and disrupts the traffic flow as drivers attempt to quickly hit the brakes in order to avoid a ticket.

10. Extended paid parental leave

This practice is rooted in the belief that more time spent together makes for a stronger family, and stronger families mean a stronger society overall.

America, take a note.
This is obviously just a handful of ideas that deserve greater attention/adoption in the States. My list could go on (decriminalization of drugs, free healthcare, same-sex marriage, and of course, cooler cars…). Add your own thoughts to the list and then we can really get to work on implementation.
