Takayuki Akachi, a Tokyo born filmmaker, is on a quest to document the 6.7 billion lives around the world…through a pair of jeans.
In his short film, Traveling Denim, Akachi follows a woman wearing the same pair of Levi’s for 2 years as she travels the world. As we are introduced to the people, places, and cultures the woman encounters, we also watch the jeans change and fade. After two years of filming, it is evident that this pair of jeans is an entirely different pair than that which we saw in the initial shot. Akachi’s message is simple; perhaps human beings are just as malleable as a pair of pants when we allow ourselves to open up our minds and bodies to new experiences.
